What are you waiting for?

Heroes take action. We admire people who act boldly.

But sometimes we overdo our fascination with “taking action.” We like to say:

Don’t just sit there, do something.

Get to your desk early and stay until closing time. We become slaves to the clock, not to innovating or growing. We act busy and tell ourselves that we are being productive. That’s the opposite of productivity!

Character strengths like creativity and curiosity defy time constraints and require space to flourish.

How about you? What are you waiting for?

Are you using your superpower of #persistence? Or are you just waiting? #SuperpowerCoaching #altMBA

Are you waiting for the weekend? for retirement?
Are you waiting for a sign? for someone to save you?

Maybe there is a mental game that you are stuck playing. Something like:

If I just wait a little longer, _____ will happen.

I can’t judge you if you are waiting. I have been waiting for most of my life: for someone to do it for me, for someone to magically appear to grant me all my wishes.

You make sense of the words and actions that you grow up with. You may even play the part. But your character is already inside, lodged near your heart. Everyone is special and gifted, but not always in the ways the world offers you. Your superpowers may lay dormant inside you, eager to find chances to blossom and feed your soul.

Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

I would still be waiting but my superpowers of curiosity, creativity, zest, and courage began chipping away at the facade I had constructed. A few years ago, learning about mindfulness and positivity triggered a landslide, revealing the superhero inside.

Over the past 12 months, I started several initiatives to change how we educate our youth, rebooted my practice as a Positive Psychologist, completed Seth Godin’s altMBA, and launched Superpower Coaching. With the support of some amazing people, and a team that I continue to build, I flex my superpowers and grow every day. I still haven’t discovered my full capacity.
